Nature's Window

In 2012 I took a photograph of Nature's Window that has been widely successful for me as a landscape photographer. Five years later, to the day, I returned to this beautiful spot to watch another sunrise. This time Damian and Kathlyn joined Hugh and I for the most epic of photo shoots.Perhaps more epic was the journey that Damian and Kathlyn had taken to get there. They were in Tasmania on holiday when we realised scheduled park closures would introduce complications to the plan. Damian and Kathlyn had a decision to make: Abandon the shoot of a lifetime, or step-up to the challenge of returning immediately. Without hesitation, Damian and Kathlyn departed Tasmania by ferry. 500km by sea, 2,700km by air, and a further 570km drive to reach Kalbarri for our 4am hotel pick-up, bound for the Nature's Window sunrise.
And what a sensational sunrise it was. Kalbarri National Park is simply the best location in the country, possibly the world, to watch a new day appear.
Just a couple of months earlier, we toured around Perth with Damian and Kathlyn to capture them in the most beautiful scenes of the metropolitan area. We wanted to create images that represent their love of Western Australia. We have often declared to our customers that we'll match them for enthusiasm and inspiration, and in this instance we were certainly tested on that. The scope of this project saw us collecting fantastic images over many hours and across great distances.
The jacaranda trees of Applecross were a must for Kathlyn.
The State Buildings of Perth City mark the point of which all measurements to Perth are calculated. This symbolic and literal centre of Perth made a great location to include in our shoot. The historic brick facades combined with ultra modern glass and steel construction gives us so much to appreciate about the architectural history of Perth City.
On a hot summer day the green areas of Perth are welcomed and depended on by the locals. So much so that Perth is home to the worlds largest inner city park, Kings Park. We took shelter from the sun under the canopy of one of the city's many parks and we were delighted by the way Damian and Kathlyn so easily fell into the romance of the location.
Obviously this gallery wouldn't have been complete without a day at the beach. Western Australia has the best examples of beaches in the world, and we chose the extraordinary Mullaloo beach for Damian and Kathlyn to run around and play under the Australian sun. The velvet smooth sand, clear uninterrupted waters, and the ideal summer climate of Western Australia clearly make it one of the best places in the world to be. Mullaloo Beach is one of my favourite top three beaches in Western Australia, and being within the Perth Metro Area means it's a place where I enjoy spending lots of time!
It is better enjoying a good time than to remember a photoshoot. Frolicking in the surf and sun their beautiful relationship with each other took over, while Hugh and I simply stood back to capture it.
We are so excited to have been a part of this magnificent shoot. Damian and Kathlyn put in so much of their time and energy to produce this with us. From our first meeting where we excitedly brainstormed ideas to the final mad dash to get to Kalbarri in time, they committed 100% to the project. We are looking forward to attending their wedding ceremony and reception later in the year.
